Some plant families have such characteristic fruits that special names are given to these fruits. In other words, these are fruit types based on taxonomy rather than on morphology.
The first example is of the fruit of the grass family (Poaceae). It is called a "caryopsis" and is similar to an achene except that the seed coat is fully adnate to the ovary wall.
