Govindjee is Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Plant Biology, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, since August 1, 1999. He is the Founding Series Editor of Advances in Photosynthesis and Respiration, and the Founding Historical Corner Editor of Photosynthesis Research, an international journal. His current interests are in (a) understanding the precise relationship(s) of chlorophyll a fluorescence with various photosynthetic reactions; (b) spreading the gospel of photosynthesis around the World; photosynthesis education; and (c) history of photosynthesis research. His honors include: Fellow of the American Association of Advancement of Science (since 1976); Fellow and Life Member of the National Academy of Sciences (India); President of the American Society for Photobiology (1980–1981); Honorary President of the International Conference of Photosynthesis Research (Montreal, 2004); the first recipient of the 'Lifetime Achievement Award' of the Rebeiz Foundation of Basic Research (2006); recipient of the ISPR (International Society of Photosynthesis Research) Communication Award (2007); the LAS (Liberal Arts and Sciences) Lifetime Achievement Award of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2008); and listed among the Eminent Indian Botanists, Past and Present (2010). | ||
