A common spring woodland wildflower in Illinois is Arisaema triphyllum, Jack-in-the-pulpit. The spathe (or the "pulpit") forms a hooded sheath around the spadix (or the "Jack"). The inside of the spathe sometimes has reddish-brown stripes on the inside.
