The Palm Family is one of those families for which there are two correct names — Arecaceae or Palmae. This is perhaps the third most economically important plant family (after the Grass Family and the Legume Family. The Palm Family is a tropical family, with some species in the subtropics and only a few in warm-temperate regions. There are about 200 genera and just under 3,000 species. |
