Longitudinal section through a flower of Rhododendron 'PJM'. The petals are connate, but the stamens are NOT adnate to the corolla tube. The anthers dehisce by apical pores. The syncarpous gynoecium has 5 carpels, and in most genera of Ericaceae the ovary is superior.
