45-Pueraria lobata, kudzu, invading landscape

[FMP-field: image]

Not all papilionaceous legumes are nice. This is Pueraria lobata (kudzu vine), a native of China and Japan that has become a serious invasive species in the southeastern United States (an now even parts of Illinois). The perennial, partially woody vines grow extremely rapidly and cover the ground and climb trees completely choking out native vegetation.
