Here is a longitudinal section of a flower of wild ginger, Asarum canadense. This is an incomplete flower: not all the four series of floral parts are present — the petals are missing.

Both the male and female reproductive parts are present within the flower: This is a perfect flower.

The red arrow points on an ovule. The placentae are the points of attachment of the ovules.
