9-Follicles, Magnolia

The fruit of Magnolia is a cluster of follicles, as seen on the right. In the flower on the left you can see the many distinct carpels, each of which matures into a follicle.

Below the follicles is a zone of small scars left by the stamens, and below that are a few larger scars left by the sepals and petals.
