Liliaceae

15-Allium cernuum

[FMP-field: image]

This is a close-up of the umbel inflorescence of Allium cernuum, the nodding wild onion. The city of Chicago gets its name from this (or another) species of onion. "Chicago" comes from the Neshnabek word "Chicagoua", meaning "place of the wild onion."
