Photograph of the aggregate of many follicles. In this fruit of the southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) the seeds have already been eaten by birds. NOTE: Images 19-41 illustrate some of the diversity found in the genus Magnolia. This is NOT something we ask you about on exams! Please see to the images 42-47 about Liriodendron as the second example of this family, and you should recognize this genus as belonging to the Magnoliaceae.
