The bay magnolia (Magnolia virginiana) is native from near the town of Magnolia, Massachusetts southward to Florida. The flower in this photo is just opening, note the 3 sepals. The leaves are evergreen in the south, but deciduous farther north. The flowers are wonderfully fragrant.
