Oleaceae

12-Fraxinus flowers

[FMP-field: image]

Being wild pollinated, the flowers have no need for a perianth, so sepals and petals are absent. The male flower on the right consists of just 2 stamens. The flower in the middle is a female flower with 2 staminodes (yellow arrow) and a superior ovary (green arrow) coming from 2 connate carpels. The female flower on the right shows only the ovary. This example is Fraxinus pennsylvanica green ash.
