Ranunculaceae

14-Hepatica achenes

[FMP-field: image]

A number of achenes of Hepatica nobilis from several fruit clusters spread out on flat plate. One of the achenes has been sliced open to show that there is only one seed inside. One end of each achene is a sticky elaiosome that attracts ants to disperse them way from the parent plant.
