Ranunculaceae

33-Anemone virginiana fruit

[FMP-field: image]

In Anemone virginiana, the walls of the carpels are covered with hairs that enlarge and become fluffy in fruit. This photo is of a fruit cluster that came from one flower. Each carpel has become an achene, and each achene is covered with the hairs that allow them to be dispersed by wind.
