58-Hairs

[FMP-field: image]

There are a great many terms that are used to describe plant hairs, but we will only deal with a few in this class.

The surface of Pseudocydonia sinensis is densely pubescent, that is, is covered with a lot of hairs.

A surface smooth, lacking hair, is called glabrous.

Hairs can be of various types:
- stellate: pubescence with hairs that branch at or near the base.
- glandular: pubescence with glandular hairs. These glands can be stalked or sessile.
