Vascular bundles in the dicot stem are arranged in a ring near the outer circumference of the stem.  Within each bundle, the xylem is located toward the center of the stem and the phloem is located toward the periphery.  Cortx tissue is located outside of the vascular bundle ring in the stem.  Pith is the tissue located inside the vascular bundle ring.
