A Downsized Guide for the "MidWest"
Prepared by Malcolm L. Sargent The "MidWest" is defined here as Illinois, Indiana, the surrounding ring of states (Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin) and the south-eastern corner of Ontario (north of Ohio and east of Michigan). This downsized version contains 191 genera of the 313 genera in the original, full North American Guide, i.e., about 60%. The number of genera included would have been even smaller except for several that are at the very edge of their distributions, i.e., several Appalachian or sub-tropical genera in Ohio or Kentucky, several south-western genera in Missouri, and several sub-boreal genera from British Columbia and the Maritime Provinces found in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. |

A Downsized Guide for the "West Coast"
Prepared by Diane H. Lucas The "West Coast" is defined here as California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. This downsized version contains 208 genera of the 313 genera in the full, original North American Guide, i.e., about 66%. It also includes all but a handful of genera found in the states and provinces immediately adjacent to the East , i.e., Arizona, Nevada, Idaho and Alberta. It is also possible that some representatives of the genera presently known from Alaska and the Yukon will be found in British Columbia. |
