Geographic Regions
Samples of S. islandicus used for genomic sequencing were collected from three geographic regions: Lassen National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and the Mutnovsky Volcano in Kamchatka, Russia.
Lassen National Park
The genomes for L.D.8.5 and L.S.2.15 were both isolated from samples taken from Lassen National Park. The spring from which L.D.8.5 was isolated was found in the Devil's Kitchen and possessed a pH of 2.7 and temperature of 78ºC. The spring from which L.S.2.15 was isolated was found in Sulfur Works and possessed the same pH and temperature.
Yellowstone National Park
The genomes for Y.G.57.14 and Y.N.15.51 were both isolated from samples taken from Yellowstone National Park. The spring from which Y.G.57.14 was isolated was found in the Geyser Creek area of Gibbon Geyser Valley and possessed a pH of 3.6 and temperature of 72ºC. The spring from which Y.N.15.51 was isolated was found in Norris Geyser Basin and possessed a pH of 2.7 and temperature of 59ºC.
Mutnovsky Volcano
The genomes for M.14.25, M.16.27 and M.16.4 were all isolated from samples taken from Mutnovsky Volcano in Kamchatka, Russia. The spring from which M.14.25 was isolated possessed a pH of 2.0 and temperature of 91ºC. The spring from which M.16.27 and M.16.4 were isolated possessed a pH of 2.0 and temperature of 76ºC.
