We honor graduate students in the Schools of Integrative Biology (SIB) and Molocular & Cellular Biology (MCB) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This year we honor
Marc-Elie Adaime
(for the 2024 Govindjee and Rajni Award).
Marc-Elie Adaime (in the center), recipient of the 2024 “Govindjee and Rajni Govindjee Award for Excellence in Biological Research”, has a PhD in plant biology, focusing on plant evolution and paleoecology through the study of fossil pollen - working in Dr. Surangi Punyasena’s lab (Department of Plant Biology, in the School of Integrative Biology (SIB) at the UIUC). His current research centers on the development of numerical methods, including phylogenetic reconstruction and phenotypic data analysis, to investigate long-term changes in plant ecology and evolution. Place: The plaque “Understanding Photosynthesis”, which is in memory of Robert Emerson and Eugene Rabinowitch, is located on the north side of the Natural History Building on the UIUC campus. Others in the photo are: Surangi Punyasena (on the left), and Govindjee (on the right) all on a cold winter day!
