43-Apocarpous gynoecium

[FMP-field: image]

When there are two or more distinct carpels per flower, the flower is apocarpous, as on this photo of Crassula argentea. This flower has 5 distinct carpels. One of them has been slightly cut on the outside (and one petal removed) so that the ovules are visible. The line drawing in the left lower corner of the picture represents a longitudinal section of a flower with an apocarpous gynoecium.
