34-Corky ridges

This photo of Liquidambar winter twigs illustrates:

1. corky ridges on the twig in the lower part of the picture.

2. growth rings (= bud scale scars) on the twig in the upper part of the photo, note here how short are the interposed. The portion of the stem between two growth rings corresponds to one season's growth
