| Subshrub (=suffrutescent) habit; Sub- means under, below, or almost. Vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) has a subshrub habit: it looks like a shrub, but it is not completely woody. Most subshrubs are very low to the ground. The lower stems of the plant have some stiff perennial woody tissue but the upper portion are herbaceous. Upper branches die back after flowering. |
