Violaceae

12-Cleistomagmous flowers

[FMP-field: image]

Some species of violets, such as Viola sororia, produce both normal large flowers and small cleistogamous flowers. In this species, the cleistogamous flowers are produced at the base of the plant. These flowers are white and never open; rather they self pollinate within the unopened flowers. This image shows different stages from cleistomagmous flowers themselves to fruits developing from these flowers.
